Since 1816, school boards have acted as a catalyst by seeking input from a wide variety of people from the community and staff in the decisions they make, to ensure student success based on community values and expectations for their schools. We now know them as the District Education Council (DEC).
The Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development has undertaken a consultation tour to propose a reform of school governance in New Brunswick in 2022. We offer some food for thought before undertaking changes to one of the most important and oldest forms of democracy in Canada.
